teh-thomas February 2, 2010 at 12:41 am you're right about simple minds being more than just a poppy brat pack suncdtraok band. however, the band didn't write don't you. it was written by Keith Forsey (who wrote Flashdance (What a feeling) ) and Steve Schiff, specifically for the film. Forsey approached Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol to perform the song, but they both declined. Eventually the song was pitched to Simple Minds, who also refused, but then agreed after their record label encouraged them to do it. Simple Minds recorded the song in one day and as a band has never really acknowledged it. but, it's a great song in my opinion never the less.the recent film adaption of bret easton ellis' the informers used simple minds' new gold dream in its opening sequence and it shows that even their lesser know album material meshes great with film.
