Youth in TransitionThe National Youth CenterMorne Rouge Grand AnseSt.George’sDear Sir/Madam I, David Norcisse am writing on behalf of the second cycle of the youth in transition program, which was launched by the MINISTRY OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT ANDSPORTS in June 2011. The program seeks to provide a safe and secure environment in which young offenders can be exposed to an alternative to criminal behaviours. This is achieved through constructive and satisfying activities geared towards personal development through interactive sessions, skills building and counseling. Participants engaged in this program are young persons out of school. Currently this program caters to eleven (11) young men within the ages of 16 to 23. All participants were subject to an initial clinical assessment provided by Legal Aid and Counseling Clinic. For the past seven (7) months, the participants have been exposed to a number of activities. Daily activities include spiritual, personal and social development, while weekly activities include counseling, art, craft, and dance also community service. Basic Literacy is made available for the participants as well as CXC classes for those that are more advanced. This area was included as most of the participants are high school drop outs.1.As with most behaviour change programs, we are faced with many challenges which include: lack of structure and routine in program due to last minute cancelations by external facilitators2.no electronic resources ( projector, laptop, dvds, speakers)3.limited committed human personnel (external facilitators)4.inadequate financing5.inadequate counseling opportunities for group and individuals6.absence of skills training in technical areas7.absence of dining utensils (knives and forks)8.inadequate materials (flip chart paper, markers, etc)9.absence of text books for both literacy and CXC sessionsThe youth in transition team is kindly requesting any form of support which would make the program more successful. We appreciate and welcome any contribution which would help us overcome our challenges. Thanks you for your support,David NorcissePersonal Development FacilitatorChild And Youth Care Counselor& Youth justice Worker442-7785 ext 1102 (work)537-1605 (cell)Email address:
